Land in Peace wins the Empowering Community Award
Kadaster International won the Empowering Community Award at the Geospatial World Forum for its 'Land in Peace' project work in Colombia.
Support to the implementation of the Peace Agreement in Colombia
We are working with Colombian institutions to contribute to implementing the Peace Agreement, focusing on Fit-for-Purpose land administration in post conflict rural areas. It is an example of “direct, participatory methods” as identified by the government.
Empowering farmers and indigenous communities
Kadaster supports the simplification of land administration processes. As well, farmers and indigenous communities have an active role in the field data collection of their own lands. Providing training and tools empowers local communities.
Direct impact of the project
The project aligns with governmental institutions in land administration at a local and national level. The Colombian National Land Agency has implemented the Fit-for-Purpose approach to update municipal cadastres in several regions. Kadaster cooperates with Colombian-Dutch governmental institutions, academia, and the commercial sector to develop the needed technologies, train local communities and align and promote the methodology with the government to scale up.
Joint effort
Many grassroots surveyors have supported cadastral actualization activities in different parts of the country. And several indigenous youngsters were trained to support their community, measuring and knowing their land themselves. This award is for them and all the Colombian institutions who work towards guaranteeing land tenure.
